And it begins today.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Led by the American Society of News Editors and funded in large part by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Sunshine Week is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunshineweek.org\/About.aspx\">billed as<\/a> &#8220;a national initiative to open a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunshineweek.org\/Coordinators.aspx\">Participants<\/a> include print, broadcast and online news media, civic groups, libraries, nonprofits, schools and others interested in the public&#8217;s right to know.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunshineweek.org\/Toolkits\/Events.aspx\">slate of formal events<\/a> is scheduled in observance of Sunshine Week. But be sure to check OpenSecrets.org&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/news\"><i>Capital Eye<\/i> blog<\/a> each day this week, as we highlight in our morning Capital Eye Opener report different initiatives we believe are helping create new levels of government transparency.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>On Friday, we&#8217;ll also publish a special report on the openness of several government issues and entities we routinely track.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So happy Sunshine Week.
