The situation escalated rapidly when the administration threatened to call state security to break the sit-in, but employees confirmed they will continue their open strike till their demands are fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth mentioning that this strike may be the first instance in which strikers use new media efficiently and effectively to draw all the attention needed to support their cause, from continuous <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#search?q=%23IslamOnline\"><em>Twitter<\/em> updates<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ustream.tv\/channel\/iol-on-air\">Live streaming<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nadia El Awady<\/em>, an ex-journalist for IOL, was closely following the situation and <a href=\"http:\/\/nadiaelawady.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/15\/%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%AA%D8%B5%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%A8%D8%A5%D8%B3%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85-%D8%A3%D9%88%D9%86-%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%8A%D9%86\/\">posted<\/a> class=\"translation\">The situation has miserably escalated inside IOL HQ in Cairo, after the Qatari management sent lawyers to take over the building, with all its properties and papers, and investigate with 250 employees who sent a statement to Sheikh Qaradawy, Chairman of the Board, complaining from unjust actions by the new management.<\/p>\n<p>Some sources said that the hidden reason behind investigating with these employees is to fire then, and so ban them from all their financial rights.<\/p>\n<p>Well-informed sources within the institution said that the aim of the investigation with employees is to arbitrarily dismiss them and therefore deprive them from all their financial dues.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"320\" height=\"265\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param href=\"http:\/\/tadamonmasr.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/15\/islamonline\/\">mentioned <\/a>[Ar] that the dispute may be because the new Qatari administration wants to move the HQ from Cairo to Doha, <em>AbdelMoniem<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/ana-ikhwan.blogspot.com\/2010\/03\/blog-post_15.html\">was skeptical<\/a> [Ar] and wondered if it was all about extremists who want to silence moderate voices on websites like<em> Islam Online<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/egyptianchronicles.blogspot.com\/2010\/03\/islam-online-strike-online.html\">Zeinobia<\/a><\/em> expressed a similar opinion to <em>AbdelMoniem<\/em>, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The new Qatari administration is said to be a very conservative one that believes the Website should stick to conservative religious issue and removed other sections<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On <em>Twitter<\/em>, <em>Mohammed<\/em>, another former journalist in IOL, broke the news saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>@<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/MohammedY\/statuses\/10515425226\">MohammedY<\/a>: To journos in Egypt &amp; Arab world: Journalists @ #IslamOnline r being bullied by new management into silence against bad company practices<br \/>\n@<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/MohammedY\/statuses\/10515855371\">MohammedY<\/a>: So when workers sign a petition stating their problems, the management puts the workers under investigation.
