Students at Knutsford High were encouraged, during the event, to write their posts for the Oxfam North West blog. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"AR-SA;\"><span style=\"10.0pt;\" lang=\"EN-US\">Read up their posts and what they thought of Sandhya&#8217;s talk on women&#8217;s access to health and education and their doubts and opinions about aid for development. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"AR-SA;\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"AR-SA;\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"Times New Roman;\">Sat in the schools media centre, of all places, I found myself moved and appalled about the global situation concerning women\u2019s rights, especially in education and childbirth.<\/p>\n<div class=\"img alignright size-medium wp-image-11581\" style=\"width:183px;\">\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxfam.org.uk\/generationwhy\/cgi\/process_comp\/photos\/2010\/03\/kh22.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oxfam.org.uk\/generationwhy\/cgi\/process_comp\/photos\/2010\/03\/kh22-180x120.jpg\" alt=\"Students at Knutsford High School\" width=\"183\" height=\"116\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div>Students at Knutsford High School<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"AR-SA;\">Most people don\u2019t realise that childbirth is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening experience, during the 30-minute talk, 30 or more women will have died from childbirth or pregnancy. Here in the UK we take medical care for granted and most people don\u2019t realise how lucky we are to have the NHS. Hoping to become a midwife or a paediatric nurse myself, going overseas to less economically developed countries is certainly something I will be looking into. <em><strong>Sam Booth and Lauren Brown <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"AR-SA;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"AR-SA;\">Does lending money to countries to help them develop actually help them? <\/span><span style=\"AR-SA;\">Will they not become dependant on aid provided by more developed countries, such as ours, and thus leaving the country<\/p>\n<div class=\"img size-medium wp-image-11584 alignleft\" style=\"width:155px;\">\n\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oxfam.org.uk\/generationwhy\/cgi\/process_comp\/photos\/2010\/03\/kh42-180x269.jpg\" alt=\"Students writing their blogs\" width=\"155\" height=\"215\" \/><\/p>\n<div>Students writing their blogs<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>helpless to maintain that level of infrastructure. In Africa economic aid will often find itself in the hands of drug runners and militant groups and never make it down to the regular citizen. That almost 30 women every half hour, the same length as the speech, could have passed away through childbirth, and that in some schools there are no female toilets.<strong> <em>Jack Street<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"AR-SA;\">Do you agree with the students&#8217; perspectives?
