Here&#8217;s a poem by the emerald isle&#8217;s finest poet, William Butler Yeats, and a kid-friendly one to boot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cat and the Moon<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2699\" title=\"Cat\" src=\"http:\/\/kurtisscaletta.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/mooncat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"212\" \/>The cat went here and there<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">And the moon spun round like a top,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">And the nearest kin of the moon,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">The creeping cat, looked up.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">For, wander and wail as he would,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">The pure cold light in the sky<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Troubled his animal blood.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Minnaloushe runs in the grass<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Lifting his delicate feet.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">When two close kindred meet,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">What better than call a dance?<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Maybe the moon may learn,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Tired of that courtly fashion,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">A new dance turn.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Minnaloushe creeps through the grass<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">From moonlit place to place,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">The sacred moon overhead<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Has taken a new phase.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Will pass from change to change,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">And that from round to crescent,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">From crescent to round they range?<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Minnaloushe creeps through the grass<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">Alone, important and wise,<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">And lifts to the changing moon<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;\">His changing eyes.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve got my green shirt on and The Pogues on the stereo in celebration of my Irish heritage.
