I’ve got my green shirt on and The Pogues on the stereo in celebration of my Irish heritage. Here’s a poem by the emerald isle’s finest poet, William Butler Yeats, and a kid-friendly one to boot.<\/p>\n

The Cat and the Moon<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"The cat went here and there<\/div>\n
And the moon spun round like a top,<\/div>\n
And the nearest kin of the moon,<\/div>\n
The creeping cat, looked up.<\/div>\n
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,<\/div>\n
For, wander and wail as he would,<\/div>\n
The pure cold light in the sky<\/div>\n
Troubled his animal blood.<\/div>\n
Minnaloushe runs in the grass<\/div>\n
Lifting his delicate feet.<\/div>\n
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?<\/div>\n
When two close kindred meet,<\/div>\n
What better than call a dance?<\/div>\n
Maybe the moon may learn,<\/div>\n
Tired of that courtly fashion,<\/div>\n
A new dance turn.<\/div>\n
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass<\/div>\n
From moonlit place to place,<\/div>\n
The sacred moon overhead<\/div>\n
Has taken a new phase.<\/div>\n
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils<\/div>\n
Will pass from change to change,<\/div>\n
And that from round to crescent,<\/div>\n
From crescent to round they range?<\/div>\n
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass<\/div>\n
Alone, important and wise,<\/div>\n
And lifts to the changing moon<\/div>\n
