In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we thought it was a good time to point out a blog the specializes in economic-themed limericks.<\/a><\/p>\n

Haiku has a special place in <\/a>the hearts of economists<\/a>, but as noted in that post the limerick is a favorite form of ours here at Real Time Economics.<\/p>\n

Limericks \u00c9conomiques<\/a>, a blog by David A. Lefkovits<\/strong>, posts a daily limerick that focuses on the dismal science and often is linked to the news of the day.<\/p>\n

These are a couple of our favorites from the blog:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I’m afraid,” said Bernanke to Geithner,
\n“The debt crisis still has lots of bite in ‘er.
\nThough it may cause some ranklin’
\nI’ll print lots more Franklins:
\nWe’ll loosen our money, not tighten ‘er!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Adam Smith saw the growing Wealth of Nations}
\nIn the market’s benign machinations,
\nBut belief in the Hand
\nWhich, Unseen, guides as planned,
\nMay show irrational expectations.<\/em><\/p>\n

Said Bernanke, stroking his beard,
\n“This ‘-flation’ is worse than I feared;
\nAll the research I see
\nIs pointing to ‘de-’;
\nIt’s the ‘in-’ crowd that strikes me as weird.”<\/em>
\n
\nOne called “Overheard at Goldman Sachs”:<\/strong>
\n“We assume that you know what you’re doing,
\nIn this ill-advised trade you’re pursuing,
\nBut the opposite bet
\nThat we place on your debt
\nMay eventually hasten your ruin.”<\/em><\/p>\n

One during Sen. Jim Bunning (R., Ky.)’s filibuster of the jobs bill:<\/strong>
\nWhen Senator Bunning demurred
\nOn the jobs bill the Senate conferred,
\nHis friends on the right
\nSlowly backed out of sight,
\n‘Til at last the poor Senator concurred.
\n
\nAnd this one inspired by a Journal article<\/a>:<\/strong>
\nSaid the skinflint economist, Betts,
\n“To the conference we’ll send our regrets.”
\nSaid her mate, “What’s the reason?
\nThe rates are off-season.”
\nSaid Betts: “If they’ll pay for it, let’s.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Finally, let us offer our own humble contribution:<\/strong>
\nWith Washington stuck in gridlock
\nAnd more of our stuff up in hock
\nLimericks are a sure way
\nTo brighten your day
\nJust don’t get caught reading them on the clock. <\/em><\/p>\n
