{"id":439899,"date":"2010-03-17T16:34:04","date_gmt":"2010-03-17T20:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/economics\/2010\/03\/17\/celebrate-st-patricks-day-with-some-economic-limericks\/"},"modified":"2010-03-17T16:34:04","modified_gmt":"2010-03-17T20:34:04","slug":"celebrate-st-patrick%e2%80%99s-day-with-some-economic-limericks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/439899","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate St. Patrick\u2019s Day With Some Economic Limericks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of St. Patrick&#8217;s Day, we thought it was a good time to point out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.limericksecon.com\/\">a blog the specializes in economic-themed limericks.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.limericksecon.com\/\">Haiku has a special place in <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/economics\/2009\/07\/02\/amid-recession-economists-embrace-haiku\/\">the hearts of economists<\/a>, but as noted in that post the limerick is a favorite form of ours here at Real Time Economics.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.limericksecon.com\/\">Limericks \u00c9conomiques<\/a>, a blog by <strong>David A. Lefkovits<\/strong>, posts a daily limerick that focuses on the dismal science and often is linked to the news of the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These are a couple of our favorites from the blog:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I&#8217;m afraid,&#8221; said Bernanke to Geithner,<br \/>\n&#8220;The debt crisis still has lots of bite in &#8216;er.<br \/>\nThough it may cause some ranklin&#8217;<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll print lots more Franklins:<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll loosen our money, not tighten &#8216;er!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Adam Smith saw the growing Wealth of Nations}<br \/>\nIn the market&#8217;s benign machinations,<br \/>\nBut belief in the Hand<br \/>\nWhich, Unseen, guides as planned,<br \/>\nMay show irrational expectations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Said Bernanke, stroking his beard,<br \/>\n&#8220;This &#8216;-flation&#8217; is worse than I feared;<br \/>\nAll the research I see<br \/>\nIs pointing to &#8216;de-&#8217;;<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s the &#8216;in-&#8217; crowd that strikes me as weird.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nOne called &#8220;Overheard at Goldman Sachs&#8221;:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;We assume that you know what you&#8217;re doing,<br \/>\nIn this ill-advised trade you&#8217;re pursuing,<br \/>\nBut the opposite bet<br \/>\nThat we place on your debt<br \/>\nMay eventually hasten your ruin.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>One during Sen.
