{"id":440173,"date":"2010-03-17T19:36:55","date_gmt":"2010-03-17T23:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reuters.com\/faithworld\/?p=12495"},"modified":"2010-03-17T19:36:55","modified_gmt":"2010-03-17T23:36:55","slug":"u-s-muslim-group-calls-textbooks-discriminatory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/440173","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Muslim group calls textbooks discriminatory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12497\" title=\"world of islam\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reuters.com\/faithworld\/files\/2010\/03\/world-of-islam-314x400-custom.jpg\" alt=\"world of islam\" width=\"314\" height=\"400\" \/>U.S. Muslim activists launched a campaign on Wednesday against a series of  educational books that they say promote anti-Islamic sentiment among  American school children.\u00a0 &#8220;The World of Islam,&#8221; a 10-book series, encourages young  readers to believe Muslims are terrorists and seek to undermine U.S.  society,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cair.com\/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=26304&amp;&amp;name=n&amp;&amp;currPage=1&amp;&amp;Active=1\"> said the Council on American-Islamic Relations<\/a>, the nation&#8217;s  largest Muslim advocacy organization.<\/p>\n<p>One book contains the passage:<em> &#8220;For the first time, Muslims  began immigrating to the U.S. in order to transform American society,  sometimes through the use of terrorism.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Moein Khawaja, civil rights director for CAIR in  Pennsylvania, said the group has gotten dozens of complaints about the  books, which are intended for middle- and  high-school students, from Muslim parents around the country.<\/p>\n<p>The books were published in late 2009 by Mason Crest  Publishers of Broomall, Pennsylvania, which worked with the  Philadelphia-based Foreign Policy Research Institute to ensure their  accuracy.
