At least three motorists got flat tires after a "spike strip" designed to stop car chases accidentally fell out of a Newport Beach Police Department vehicle. <\/p>\n
Newport Coast resident Meghan Marcum was driving home down East Coast
\nHighway on a rainy night last month when she felt the front left tire of
\n her 2003 Honda Civic give out.<\/p>\n
When Marcum got out of her car,
\nshe discovered that her left rear tire was also flattened.

<\/br>\u201cIt
\nscared me,\u201d Marcum told the Daily Pilot. \u201cIt was raining and cold. I was in heels, and I
\n don\u2019t have any family in California.\u201d

Marcum and at least two
\nother motorists had their tires spiked Feb. 27 by a tire-deflation
\ndevice that police use to slow fleeing suspects. Marcum\u2019s tires deflated
\n within seconds and without a sound, she said.<\/p>\n
