{"id":442506,"date":"2010-03-18T10:01:51","date_gmt":"2010-03-18T14:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blogs.courant.com,2010:\/capitol_watch\/\/9.74152"},"modified":"2010-03-18T10:17:34","modified_gmt":"2010-03-18T14:17:34","slug":"and-speaking-of-bysiewicz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/442506","title":{"rendered":"And speaking of Bysiewicz&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Q poll frontrunner said she&#8217;s had a chance to&nbsp;examine the legal implications of joining a lawsuit by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley&nbsp;to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have reviewed&nbsp;Attorney General Coakley&#8217;s lawsuit and determined that indeed&nbsp;I would support bringing a similar action in Connecticut when&nbsp;I&nbsp;become attorney general because&nbsp;I do think it&#8217;s important that same-sex couples have the same rights under federal law,&#8221; Bysiewicz said in a phone message to me yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s simply a matter of enforcing&nbsp;Connecticut law,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I would look forward to bringing a similar action.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bysiewicz&#8217;&nbsp;statement comes in&nbsp;response to <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.courant.com\/capitol_watch\/2010\/03\/the-ag-candidates-and-the-doma.html\">a campaign <\/a>by a Massachusetts activist&nbsp;named Paul Sousa. He is pressing each of the men and women running for AG in Connecticut to join Coakley&#8217;s cause to overturn the DOMA, which prevents legally married same-sex couples from Connecticut from receiving any&nbsp;rights and responsibilities given to married couples under federal law.<\/p>\n<p>Thus far, the other Democrats in the race &#8212; Cam Staples and George Jepsen &#8212; have also expressed support.
