<\/a>The Citizenship and Integration Direct Services Grant Program offered\u00a0through the Office of Citizenship (OoC), within U.S. Citizenship and\u00a0Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS),\u00a0will provide federal funding to eligible organizations to promote the\u00a0rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Competitive grants fund of\u00a0approximately $4,500,000 will support the expansion of citizenship\u00a0services in communities nationwide.Grant activities shall focus on\u00a0promoting the rights and responsibilities of citizenship through\u00a0citizenship education and naturalization preparation programs for\u00a0legal permanent residents (LPRs). Proposed activities must include a\u00a0citizenship education component consisting of citizenship or\u00a0civics-focused English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction and\u00a0citizenship instruction (U.S. history and government) to prepare LPRs\u00a0for the civics, English reading, writing, and speaking components of\u00a0the naturalization test. In addition to the mandatory citizenship\u00a0education component, grant funds may be used to provide naturalization\u00a0application preparation services, including legal services (within the\u00a0scope of authorized practice of immigration law) and case management\u00a0services to support the naturalization application and interview\u00a0process. Grant funds may be used for outreach to inform LPRs of\u00a0services offered through this grant-funded program and for staff\u00a0professional development and volunteer training.
