In fact, as Fox News&#8217; Megyn Kelly had noted three hours  earlier, the <em>NEJM<\/em> did not conduct  the &#8220;survey&#8221; &#8212; which was &#8220;not a scientific poll.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Beck falsely attributed survey to  <em>NEJM<\/em><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Beck falsely  claimed <em>NEJM<\/em> &#8220;says &#8230; nearly  one-third of doctors  will quit&#8221; if bill passes.<\/strong> On the March 17 edition of his Fox  News show, Beck <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/201003170036\">falsely  claimed<\/a> that &#8220;<em>The New  England Journal of Medicine<\/em> says that if this bill is passed nearly  one-third of doctors  will quit practice medicine &#8212; quit practicing medicine.&#8221; <\/p>\n<h2>As Fox&#8217;s Kelly noted, &#8220;survey&#8221; was  not conducted by <em>NEJM<\/em> and was  &#8220;not a scientific poll&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Kelly: Survey,  which was &#8220;not a scientific poll,&#8221; &#8220;was conducted by the Medicus Firm &#8230; a  national physician search firm.&#8221;<\/strong> On the March 17 edition of Fox  News&#8217; <em>America Live<\/em>, host Kelly <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/mmtv\/201003170047\">noted<\/a> that  the survey &#8220;was conducted by the Medicus Firm, which is a national physician  search firm.&#8221; She added: &#8220;<em>The New England  Journal of Medicine<\/em>, which was originally responsible for posting,  not publishing, but &#8212; not conducting the survey, but for posting it on its  website &#8212; later removed it. It&#8217;s not a scientific poll; it&#8217;s a survey.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Spokeswoman  confirmed survey has nothing to do with <em>NEJM<\/em>&#8217;s &#8220;original research&#8221; and &#8220;was not  published&#8221; by <em>Journal<\/em>.<\/strong> <em>Media Matters for America<\/em> contacted  <em>NEJM<\/em> and <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/201003170036\">received  confirmation<\/a> from spokeswoman Jennifer Zeis that the study had &#8220;nothing to  do with the New England Journal of Medicine&#8217;s original research.&#8221; Zeis also made  clear that the study &#8220;was not published by the New England Journal of Medicine.&#8221;  In fact, the Medicus Firm conducted the survey in December 2009. Medicus, a  Dallas- and Atlanta-based firm that recruits and places physicians in jobs was  responsible for conducting the survey. It issued a <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.themedicusfirm.com%2Fpages%2Fmedicus-media-survey-reveals-impact-health-reform\">press release<\/a> about the results on December 17, 2009. The  report then <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nejmjobs.org%2Fcontent%2Frpt%2Fpdf%2FmarApr_10.pdf\">appeared<\/a> in Recruiting Physicians Today, an employment  newsletter produced by the  Massachusetts Medical Society, &#8220;the publishers of the New England  Journal of Medicine.&#8221; <\/p>\n<h2>Other Fox  personalities have perpetuated the falsehood<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Several Fox News  personalities have made the false claim about the survey.<\/strong> Before  correcting the record, Kelly herself had <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/mmtv\/201003170042\">previously<\/a>  falsely attributed the survey to the <em>NEJM<\/em>. Others who have made the claim  include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Host Bill O&#8217;Reilly,  who <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/research\/201003170046\">claimed<\/a>  on March 16 that the survey was &#8220;published by <em>The New England Journal of Medicine<\/em>, a  prestigious magazine.&#8221; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><em>Fox &amp;  Friends<\/em> co-host Brian Kilmeade, who <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/research\/201003170046\">said<\/a> on  March 17 that the <em>NEJM<\/em> &#8220;published  a report and did a survey&#8221; that found doctors &#8220;feel reform will force them out.&#8221;  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Host Sean Hannity,  who, on the March 16 edition of his show, <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/research\/201003170046\">asked<\/a>  Milton Wolf, a radiologist who says he is President Obama&#8217;s second cousin, &#8220;Will  this plan that they&#8217;re now pushing, and I think in a very corrupt way, do you  believe this will harm and &#8212; if you believe so, how greatly will it harm our  health care system?&#8221; Wolf replied: &#8220;We just learned from <em>The <a  rel=\"nofollow\" name=\"1276eb11642b3ff4_1276ead6f764540a_ORIGHI\"><\/a><a  rel=\"nofollow\" name=\"1276eb11642b3ff4_1276ead6f764540a_HIT_11\"><\/a>New England Journal of  Medicine<\/em> that a significant percentage of doctors would consider  leaving &#8212; seriously consider leaving the profession if this went through.&#8221;  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Fox News  contributor Dr. Marc Siegel, who, on the March 16 edition of Fox News&#8217; <em>Your World<\/em>, <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/research\/201003170046\">stated<\/a>:  &#8220;First of all, the [American Medical Association] is a bureaucratic organization  that doesn&#8217;t represent practicing doctors.
