{"id":447259,"date":"2010-03-19T11:25:33","date_gmt":"2010-03-19T15:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/illinoiseducationassociation.org\/?p=6559"},"modified":"2010-03-19T11:25:33","modified_gmt":"2010-03-19T15:25:33","slug":"pink-pretty-popular-at-iea-ra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/447259","title":{"rendered":"Pink pretty popular at IEA RA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Virtually all of the 1,268 delegates attending the 2010 IEA Representative Assembly are wearing pink today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6558 aligncenter\" title=\"Pink Crowd\" src=\"http:\/\/illinoiseducationassociation.org\/media\/Pink-Crowd1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPink (slip) Friday\u201d is intended as a show of solidarity by IEA members with the thousands of education employees who are being \u201cpink-slipped\u201d by their school districts, receiving layoff notices due to the state budget crisis.<\/p>\n<p>As many as 17,000 education employees are expected to be laid off unless the state legislature increases revenue for school districts.<\/p>\n<p>Those layoffs will undoubtedly be a big issue when the two major party candidates for governor, Republican State Senator Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) and Democrat Gov. Pat Quinn, make their first joint appearance since each was nominated.<\/p>\n<p>The two have agreed to answer questions from IEA President Ken Swanson.\u00a0 The questions will be based on input from members of the IEA Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>IEA members will urge the candidates to increase state revenues by supporting two revenue proposals; a proposed one percentage point increase in the state income tax for education and HB 174, comprehensive tax reform that will provided needed funding to education and state human services agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Virtually all of the 1,268 delegates attending the 2010 IEA Representative Assembly are wearing pink today. \u201cPink (slip) Friday\u201d is intended as a show of solidarity by IEA members with the thousands of education employees who are being \u201cpink-slipped\u201d by their school districts, receiving layoff notices due to the state budget crisis.
