{"id":448635,"date":"2010-03-19T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-19T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nybooks.com\/post\/458768853"},"modified":"2010-03-19T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-19T13:00:00","slug":"slide-show-houdons-sensuous-sculpture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/448635","title":{"rendered":"Slide Show: Houdon&#8217;s Sensuous Sculpture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>In \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/articles\/23787\">The Best Faces of the Enlightenment<\/a>,\u201d from the April 8 issue of<\/em> The New York Review, <em>Willibald Sauerl\u00e4nder writes about a new exhibition of the work of Jean-Antoine Houdon, whom he calls \u201cthe last and probably greatest French sculptor of the eighteenth century.\u201d In his works\u2014a selection of which can be seen in this slide show\u2014the \u201cpanegyric rhetoric of the baroque\u201d and the \u201cflounces and wigs of the rococo\u201d give way to \u201can unadorned naturalism.\u201d  \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.liebieghaus.de\/lh\/index.php?StoryID=348&#038;websiteLang=en\">Jean-Antoine Houdon: Sensuous Sculpture<\/a>\u201d was organized by the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt, Germany, and is on view at the Mus\u00e9e Fabre in Montpellier, France, until June 27.
