{"id":449136,"date":"2010-03-19T21:03:08","date_gmt":"2010-03-20T01:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/?p=129426"},"modified":"2010-03-19T21:03:08","modified_gmt":"2010-03-20T01:03:08","slug":"macedonia-if-there-was-no-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/449136","title":{"rendered":"Macedonia: If There Was No Internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Macedonian bloggers and other new media users offered their own responses to the question &#8220;How internet changed your life?&#8221;, posed in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/macedonian\/news\/story\/2010\/03\/100308_superpower5_dusko.shtml\">article<\/a> [MKD] on BBC&#39;s Macedonian language site.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/a1.twimg.com\/profile_images\/679382128\/darko-buldioski_bigger.jpg\" title=\"Darko Buldioski\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"73\" height=\"73\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/darko156\">Darko Buldioski<\/a> of <em>Komunikacii.net<\/em> applied a style figure reminiscent of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Slavic_antithesis\">Slavic antithesis<\/a> to rephrase the question into &#8220;If I had no internet&#8230;&#8221; and <a href=\"http:\/\/komunikacii.net\/03\/09\/da-nemav-internet\/\">posted<\/a> the following answers:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nI would not have&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8230;been able to write on my blog, in which I invested much and got much in return \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;known that BBC covers this topic, as I don&#39;t listen to radio news, I read it all online<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;met a bunch of excellent people with whom I regularly communicate about different subjects<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;ordered various trinkets that my brother transports for me when he comes from America (it&#39;s supposedly cheaper there)<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;worked on what I do now, because my work is about Internet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Linking to the relevant South Park episode &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southparkstudios.com\/episodes\/166179\">&#8220;Over Logging&#8221;<\/a> &#8211; Buldioski also invited others to share their thoughts. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/profile.ak.fbcdn.net\/v224\/759\/47\/q536579713_5566.jpg\" title=\"Sead Dzigal\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"50\" height=\"50\" \/>Dozens of Twitter users offered their opinions via the hashtag <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#search?q=%23danemaseinternet\">#danemaseinternet<\/a> [MKD] or &#8220;If there was no Internet&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8230;I would have to carry a notebook with me like [the author] Venko Andonovski to record my thoughts [- <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/sead93\/status\/10233063472\"><em>Sead93<\/em><\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;by God I would have dealt with scientific research and as a result I would have found evidence to disprove the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theory_of_relativity\">Theory of Relativity<\/a> [- <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/goranmitev\/status\/10288897337\"><em>goranmitev<\/em><\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;I would never have discovered what life on a farm is like [- <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/lazyvlad\/statuses\/10339883544\"><em>lazyvlad<\/em><\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;and a number of them blamed the internet for not being in shape, lack of muscle mass or excess fatty tissue. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/profile.ak.fbcdn.net\/hprofile-ak-sf2p\/hs273.snc3\/23218_529421753_5507_q.jpg\" title=\"Marjan Zabrcanec\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"50\" height=\"50\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/zabrcanec\">Marjan Zabrcanec<\/a> considers his blog <em>Golemata slika <\/em> (The Big Picture) and his Twitter and Facebook profiles his &#8220;loudspeakers&#8221; for exercising his right to the freedom of speech. He <a href=\"http:\/\/golemataslika.crnaovca.mk\/ako-nemase-internet\/\">explained<\/a> [MKD] that he opened his first e-mail account 15 years ago, and that without internet he would not have known &#8220;which topics and arguments are used by debaters from all over the world. Research would have been tremendously hard. Now, there&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/debatepedia.idebate.org\/en\/index.php\/Welcome_to_Debatepedia!\">Debatopedia<\/a>,&#8221; and would not have been able to effectively manage <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Youth-Educational-Forum\/32384980959?ref=ts\">his NGO<\/a>, or offer cheap but powerful internet marketing campaigns for the clients of his current <a href=\"http:\/\/newmoment.com.mk\/\">employer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/a1.twimg.com\/profile_images\/663398536\/arheo-logo_bigger.jpg\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"50\" height=\"50\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/arheoblog\">Vasilka Dimitrovska<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/arheo.blog.mk\/2010\/03\/09\/if-there-was-no-internet\/\">reckoned<\/a> [MKD] that without Internet she would have never learned how to blog and use new media to &#8220;detect, present and protect cultural heritage,&#8221; and influence the public opinion, including appearing on TV.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;I would have remained just one more archeologist in the sea of unknown and anemic archeologists in Macedonia without any attention from the society, and with even less respect.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Ribaro <\/em> (The Fisherman) responded via <a href=\"http:\/\/ribaro.mk\/ako-nemashe-internet\/\">a vlog post<\/a>, with audio in Macedonian and English subtitles. <\/p>\n<p><object width=\"480\" height=\"385\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/6FFuG8bmdjk&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/6FFuG8bmdjk&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"480\" height=\"385\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Viktor Arsovski <a href=\"http:\/\/it.com.mk\/index.php\/Vesti\/Internet\/Da-nemashe-internet-bi\">wrote<\/a> [MKD] that without Internet he probably would have continued to teach English, and not take part in the founding of <em>IT.com.mk<\/em>, and&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>I would take our media &#8220;for granted,&#8221; and not read information from other sources.<\/li>\n<li>I would have never known that some things in the society can improve.<\/li>\n<li>I would not get frustrated by watching football (soccer) on [Macedonian TV] Sitel. Now by watching online streaming I know there are quality anchors who explain about the sport instead of talking nonsense. Therefore, even though it sometimes makes me nervous, at least I know that the Internet offers me a choice!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/potru\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/a1.twimg.com\/profile_images\/705776248\/luklow.neW_bigger.jpg\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"50\" height=\"50\" \/><\/a>Bloggers who posted on this subject also included <a href=\"http:\/\/kihupotru.blogspot.com\/2010\/03\/danemaseinternet.html\"><em>Kihu Potru<\/em><\/a> [MKD], who emphasized the Internet&#39;s importance in sharing art and establishing connections between artists &#8211; from <a href=\"http:\/\/art-walk.ning.com\/\">visuals<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/poeet.com\/p\/o\/potru.html\">haiku<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/kuzmanov.wp.mk\/blog\/da-nemav-internet\/\"><em>Kuzmanov<\/em><\/a> [MKD]; <a href=\"http:\/\/doilike.tumblr.com\/post\/441140316\/danemaseinternet\"><em>Martin<\/em><\/a> [MKD]; and <a href=\"http:\/\/dzam.blog.mk\/2010\/03\/11\/lokalen-internet-ima-nema-arwena-prozivka-blog\/\"><em>Dzaman<\/em><\/a> [MKD].<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/a1.twimg.com\/profile_images\/72968518\/jas_bigger.JPG\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"50\" height=\"50\" \/>Finaly, some people responded through comments on blogs of others, like <em><a href=\"http:\/\/oksimoron.blog.mk\/\">Oksimoron<\/a><\/em>, who <a href=\"http:\/\/arheo.blog.mk\/2010\/03\/09\/if-there-was-no-internet\/\">said<\/a> [MKD]: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>If there was no internet&#8230; I would have walked around more, I would have been a better housewife, and would not look silly laughing alone in front of the monitor \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/nadeznan.blog.mk\/\">Nadezhna<\/a><\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/razvigor.blog.mk\/2010\/03\/09\/kako-internet-ti-go-smenil-zhivotot\/#comment-2630\">said<\/a> [MKD]:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; I now read more books, and they are much cheaper \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n&#8211; Someone listens to my voice (reads my blog).<br \/>\n&#8211; The Internet helped me to get a job.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/a1.twimg.com\/profile_images\/273302710\/caci4_bigger.jpg\" class=\"alignright\" width=\"50\" height=\"50\" \/><em><a href=\"http:\/\/prroom.blogspot.com\/\">PRoom<\/a><\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/komunikacii.net\/03\/09\/da-nemav-internet\/#comment-31095\">noted<\/a> [MKD] that without Internet:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;would not have enrolled into post-graduate studies (found over the Internet)<br \/>\n&#8211; I would not have stayed awake till 5 in the morning<br \/>\n&#8211; I would not have known many of my current friends<br \/>\n&#8211; I would not have been able to book a hotel in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nice\">Nice<\/a><br \/>\n&#8211; I would not have been able to surprise my loved ones who are far away with gifts<br \/>\nAnd for certain I would not have known that one day <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uKSTYvCC8yw\">the Internet will die<\/a> [MKD] \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Macedonian bloggers and other new media users offered their own responses to the question &#8220;How internet changed your life?&#8221;, posed in an article [MKD] on BBC&#39;s Macedonian language site.
