{"id":454599,"date":"2010-03-21T10:06:42","date_gmt":"2010-03-21T14:06:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/illinoiseducationassociation.org\/?p=6607"},"modified":"2010-03-21T10:06:42","modified_gmt":"2010-03-21T14:06:42","slug":"an-ra-to-remember","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/454599","title":{"rendered":"An RA to remember"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6690\" title=\"Pink Crowd\" src=\"http:\/\/illinoiseducationassociation.org\/media\/Pink-Crowd4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The gavel fell at 12:20 pm on Saturday, ending one of the most remarkable IEA Representative Assembly\u2019s (RA) in memory.<\/p>\n<p>The 2010 RA stands out because of the resolve displayed by the more than 1,260 delegates to fight back, using all tools available, to overcome the problems facing our more than 133,000 members.<\/p>\n<p>Delegates voted to empower IEA leaders to advocate to preserve the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) and the State University Retirement System (SURS) for current and future members.<\/p>\n<p>Delegates not only passed a budget for the coming school year, they agreed to invest in the most significant media campaign in IEA history.\u00a0 The campaign will feature statewide radio ads as well as other media such as billboards and Web advertising.\u00a0 The goal, in the words of President Ken Swanson, is to \u201cGo on offense and tell the public and policymakers the truth about who IEA members are and what we contribute to our state and communities.\u201d\u00a0 You will be hearing a lot more on this in the months to come.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Political Fireworks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6608 alignright\" title=\"Quinn-Swanson-Brady\" src=\"http:\/\/illinoiseducationassociation.org\/media\/Quinn-Swanson-Brady-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/>The RA will also be remembered as the<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyherald.com\/story\/?id=367358&amp;src=1\">Fort Sumter of the 2010 gubernatorial campaign<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>State Sen. Bill Brady (R) and Gov.
