Henry Waxman (D-CA):<\/strong> &ldquo;We strengthen Medicare.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong>GOP Leader Response: <\/strong>The Democrats&rsquo; government takeover of health care cuts more than half-a-trillion dollars from Medicare, including <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">more than $200 billion from Medicare Advantage<\/span>, which serves <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">nearly 11 million seniors<\/span>. Various analyses have found &#8211; and Democratic lawmakers have stated &#8211; these drastic cuts would lead to higher out-of-pocket costs, reduced benefits and fewer health care choices for our seniors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dems&rsquo; Medicare Cuts By The Numbers<\/span>: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>$528.5 billion<\/strong> &#8211; Total cuts to Medicare included in the bill,<\/li>\n<li><strong>$206 billion<\/strong> &#8211; Total cuts to Medicare Advantage plans in the Senate and reconciliation measures-the latest reconciliation bill (H.R. 4872) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">adds another $66.1 billion in cuts to the Senate-passed measure<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$13.3 billion<\/strong> &#8211; Amount of future, yet-to-be-determined Medicare cuts chosen by an unelected federal board.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$65.7 billion<\/strong> &#8211; Amount of money taken from seniors in the form of higher premiums and additional cuts to Medicare beneficiaries and providers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Quotes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li>Congressional Budget Office Director Doug Elmendorf: Medicare cuts could &ldquo;reduce access to care or diminish the quality of care.&rdquo; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/ftpdocs\/108xx\/doc10868\/12-19-Reid_Letter_Managers_Correction_Noted.pdf\" >Letter, 12\/19\/09<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Associated Press: &ldquo;Democrats are pushing for Medicare cuts on a scale not seen in years to underwrite health care for all.
