{"id":457312,"date":"2010-03-22T06:51:17","date_gmt":"2010-03-22T10:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/?p=128466"},"modified":"2010-03-22T06:51:17","modified_gmt":"2010-03-22T10:51:17","slug":"iran-new-wave-of-blogger-arrests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/457312","title":{"rendered":"Iran: New wave of blogger arrests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-128488\" title=\"babak_bigger\" src=\"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/babak_bigger.jpg\" alt=\"babak_bigger\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/>The Iranian state-run news website, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.irna.ir\/View\/FullStory\/?NewsId=1010908\">Irna<\/a><\/em> [fa] and ultra conservative newspaper <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kayhannews.ir\/881224\/2.htm#other201\">Keyhan <\/a><\/em> [fa] announced this month that members of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iraniazad.com\/\"> Iran Proxy<\/a>, a group fighting against censorship and filtering, had been arrested. The news sites also claimed in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/businesscenter\/article\/191510\/iran_hacks_opposition_web_sites_arrests_cyber_activists.html\">announcement<\/a> that the Iranian government had disrupted several &#8220;U.S. backed cyber war networks&#8221; and arrested 30 people. Iranian news sites did not mention how many of the arrested people belong to Iran Proxy group.<\/p>\n<p><em>Iran Proxy <\/em>has used <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Iranproxy\">twitter <\/a>and their website in the fight against web filtering. In an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.radiofarda.com\/content\/f3_filtering_Iranproxy_freedom_expression_censorship\/1901609.html\">interview<\/a> with Radio Farda, a representative of the group said they have been working for six years in an &#8216;underground&#39; fight against censorship.<\/p>\n<p>Three months ago, the group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iraniazad.com\/?p=117\">announced<\/a> on its website [fa] that due to financial pressures they were stopping their activities.<\/p>\n<p><em>Keyhan<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kayhannews.ir\/881224\/2.htm#other201\"> reported <\/a>that the leader of the group is a blogger named &#8220;Seyed Hussein Ronaghi Melki&#8221; whose pennames are <em>Babak Khoramdin<\/em> or <em>Babak blogger<\/em>. The newspaper claims the blogger was based in Tabriz and was involved in human rights activities. According to Keyhan he has been arrested by security forces.<\/p>\n<p><em>Babak Khoramdin <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/khorramdin\">used <\/a> [fa] the photo above on Twitter and his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rosva.co.cc\/\">blog<\/a> [fa] where he shared ideas on human rights and political issues.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Iranian reformist websites <a href=\"http:\/\/kaleme.com\/1388\/12\/23\/klm-14222\">announced<\/a> [fa] that Mehdi Aboutorabi, founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/persianblog.ir\/default.aspx\">Persian Blog<\/a>, a leading blog provider in country in the country had also been arrested. Aboutorabi was a supporter of the presidential campaign of one of Iran&#39;s main opposition leaders,  <a href=\"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/specialcoverage\/iranian-election-2009\/\">Mir Hussein Mousavi<\/a>. Since the presidential election on 12 June, the Iranian authorities have arrested hundreds of journalists and political activists, and also many bloggers.
