The Youth Development Specialist will focus on projects and tasks associated with recruitment, hiring, advertising, and outreach for the VYCC Summer Conservation Program, and should be prepared to take on additional responsibilities as they arise. The Youth Development Specialist will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.<br \/>\nThe Youth Development Specialist position is ideal for a highly motivated, enthusiastic team player who is interested in working with an organization which has a tremendous impact on the young people and environment of Vermont. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, detail oriented, comfortable with public speaking, proficient at juggling multiple tasks, and thrives on reaching out to young people and community members. The position will center on recruitment of seasonal employees, hiring youth participants, building relationships with program partners, and ensuring that the experience for participants is successful. As an AmeriCorps Member with the VYCC, the Youth Development Specialist will also be trained in disaster relief and may be part of a response team should the need arise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps<\/strong><br \/>\nThe VYCC is a non-profit service, conservation, and education organization modeled after the 1930\u2019s Civilian Conservation Corps. The VYCC instills the values of personal responsibility, hard work, education, and respect for the environment in young people. Young adults aged 16-24, work, live, and study together in small groups, completing priority conservation and park management projects throughout Vermont under the guidance of highly-trained leaders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Environmental Factors<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Youth Development Specialist will be based out of the VYCC Headquarters Office in Richmond, VT. The office currently houses 20 full-time staff, as well as varying numbers of interns and volunteers who assist with special projects throughout the season. The Youth Development Specialist must be able to maintain focus and productivity amidst a bustling office atmosphere while sharing office space with others. In addition, all staff work with 17 year-round School Instructors and over 40 summer seasonal staff on a regular basis. The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps is an organization that cultivates success using a team approach. All staff must balance personal initiative and independence with an ability to effectively utilize the team process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recruitment and Outreach<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Manage the advertising plan and budget including web ads, print ads, and informational mailings to contacts<\/li>\n<li> Manage the outreach plan including selecting events to attend, scheduling class room presentations, organizing community information sessions, and staffing each event<\/li>\n<li> Cultivate and maintain relationships with partnering organizations including schools, universities, youth programs, etc.<\/li>\n<li> Mintain and update the recruitment section of the website as necessary<\/li>\n<li> Design and update marketing materials including posters, mailings, and on-line applications<\/li>\n<li> Track and report progress of recruitment goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Selecting &amp; Hiring Corps Members<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Select and hire approximately 200 youth participants for VYCC\u2019s summer field season<\/li>\n<li> Conduct phone interviews with applicants as necessary<\/li>\n<li> Track crew demographics and composition utilizing database systems<\/li>\n<li> Ensure various grant requirements are met<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Corps Member Support<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Work closely with the VT Department of Labor to enroll, support, and communicate progress of youth in the WIA program<\/li>\n<li> Ensure youth participants are thoroughly informed and prepared for the experience prior to commencement<\/li>\n<li> Provide additional information to Crew Leaders about participants with barriers to employment<\/li>\n<li> Work closely with Program Coordinators to ensure participants are set up for success<\/li>\n<li> Assist with communications with youth support workers when necessary<\/li>\n<li> Provide letters of recommendation for participants when requested<\/li>\n<li> Assist with youth evaluation process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other Responsibilities<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Assemble end of the season statistics<\/li>\n<li> Conduct end of the season assessment and implement necessary changes<\/li>\n<li> Attend Field Staff Trainings as needed<\/li>\n<li> Attend program events and start ups as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Knowledge<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Course of study in hiring, youth development or other relevant area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Skills<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Excellent interpersonal skills<\/li>\n<li> Exemplary time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail<\/li>\n<li> Working knowledge of computers and office technology<\/li>\n<li> Excellent written and oral communication skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Abilities<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Strong sense of initiative<\/li>\n<li> Belief in VYCC mission<\/li>\n<li> Willingness to put in long hours to get the job done<\/li>\n<li> Willingness to adjust  to variable work load and duties<\/li>\n<li> Ability to manage complex logistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Compensation<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Living Stipend and AmeriCorps Education Award<\/li>\n<li> AmeriCorps Medical Insurance Coverage<\/li>\n<li>Training in disaster relief preparedness<\/li>\n<li> Hands-on professional development<\/li>\n<li> Being an important team player in a non-profit organization which has a tremendous impact on Vermont<\/li>\n<li> Supportive, challenging atmosphere with dedicated and professional co-workers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>TO APPLY<\/strong><br \/>\nSend cover letter, resume, and references to Abigail Mendenhall at the address below or by email to <span id=\"emob-Novtnvy.Zraqraunyy@ilpp.bet-18\">Abigail.Mendenhall {at} vycc(.)org<\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\n    var mailNode = document.getElementById('emob-Novtnvy.Zraqraunyy@ilpp.bet-18');\n    var linkNode = document.createElement('a');\n    linkNode.setAttribute('href', \"mailto:%41%62%69%67%61%69%6C%2E%4D%65%6E%64%65%6E%68%61%6C%6C%40%76%79%63%63%2E%6F%72%67\");\n    tNode = document.createTextNode(\"Abigail.Mendenhall {at} vycc(.)org\");\n    linkNode.appendChild(tNode);\n    linkNode.setAttribute('id', \"emob-Novtnvy.Zraqraunyy@ilpp.bet-18\");\n    mailNode.parentNode.replaceChild(linkNode, mailNode);\n<\/script>.
