The new Toyota iQ based Aston Martin Cygnet is expected to help increase sales of the company by more than 30 percent from 2009. Aston Martin sold 4,000 units last year as compared to 5,800 units in 2008. CEO Ulrich Bez says he expects sales to surpass 2008 levels and top 6,000 units in 2010.<\/p>\n

Bez says that the launch of the Cygnet and the Aston Martin Rapide<\/a> will provide the boost in sales.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sold 4000 cars in 2009, and we want to sell 5500 to 6000 in 2010,” Bez told Automobilwoche<\/em>. “The Rapide, in particular, is starting off well. \u201cWe can’t talk about a great recovery in the market for luxury cars. All told, I believe that the situation won’t be worse than in 2009, however.”<\/p>\n

Bez again defended the company’s decision to build the Cygnet and said he doesn’t feel it will dilute the sports car brand.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of our customers need a city car,” he said. \u201cThe exclusive Cygnet is the natural choice for them.”<\/p>\n

Refresher<\/strong>: Based on the Toyota\u00a0iQ, the Aston Martin Cygnet will be powered by a 1.3L engine making 97-hp, allowing it to hit a top speed of 105 mph. Aston Martin will make around 2,000 units and will sell them for around \u00a320,000 (about $35,000 USD) a pop. The Cygnet is only available to those who currently own an Aston.<\/p>\n
