{"id":467376,"date":"2010-03-24T15:53:23","date_gmt":"2010-03-24T19:53:23","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a97144da970b"},"modified":"2010-03-25T03:28:58","modified_gmt":"2010-03-25T07:28:58","slug":"ex-fire-chief-for-fillmore-used-city-funds-to-pay-for-abortion-big-screen-tv-prosecutors-allege","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/467376","title":{"rendered":"Ex-fire chief for Fillmore used city funds to pay for abortion, big-screen TV, prosecutors allege"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The former fire chief of Fillmore has been ordered to stand trial after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fillmoregazette.com\/front-page\/former-fillmore-fire-chief-pete-egedi-arrested\">being accused <\/a>of using city funds to pay for an abortion for a city employee and items for his home.<\/p>\n<p>Pete Egedi, who served as fire chief from 2005 to 2009, has pleaded not guilty to charges of embezzlement and grand theft.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ventura County Star, Egedi <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vcstar.com\/news\/2010\/mar\/23\/nxxfcfirechief24\/\">used city funds<\/a> to purchase items for his wife as well as a big-screen television and other items for his home. Egerdi is also accused of using public funds to help a colleague get an abortion at Planned Parenthood in Sherman Oaks, according to the paper.<\/p>\n<p>A Ventura County judge Tuesday ordered Egedi to stand trial.<\/p>\n<p>Egedi worked for the Fire Department for more than 15 years, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fillmoreca.com\/citynews.htm\">Fillmore&#8217;s website.<\/a> &quot;He was responsible for helping to successfully establish the City\u2019s paramedic services last year, made necessary by the closure of Santa Paula Hospital and its emergency room,&quot; according to a biography from the city.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Egedi also worked to create a public access defibrillator program in Fillmore and has been responsible for upgrading the department\u2019s computer systems and automation,&quot; according to the city biography.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Shelby Grad<\/p>\n<p><strong>More breaking news in L.A.
