It hasn&#8217;t really been the case so far.<\/p>\n<p>But now the trend is accelerating, with four tech IPOs in three months this year.<\/p>\n<p>We see three reasons for this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The run in the markets<\/li>\n<li>The high liquidity environment created by the Fed<\/li>\n<li>Investors&#8217; renewed appetite for risk. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But whether a tech IPO boom is truly in the cards remain to be seen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/the-tech-ipos-back-baby-2010-3\/quinstreet-qnst-is-an-online-marketing-company-1\">In the meantime, check out this year&#8217;s tech IPOs &gt;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>QuinStreet (QNST) is an online marketing company<\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"image-container slide-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.businessinsider.com\/image\/4bab47c17f8b9a0a357b0000-400-300\/quinstreet-qnst-is-an-online-marketing-company.jpg\" alt=\"QuinStreet (QNST) is an online marketing company\" border=\"0\" class=\"slide-image\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong>What they do:<\/strong> QuinStreet is <em>&#8220;the leader in vertical marketing and media online&#8221;<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.quinstreet.com\/what_we_do\/\" title=\"QuinStreet - What We Do\">link<\/a>) &#8212; they&#8217;re a lead-generation company basically.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The IPO:<\/strong> The shares were offered at $15 and stayed there, they&#8217;re now at $16.3, a 9% gain.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Financial Engines (FNGN) helps you plan for your retirement<\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"image-container slide-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.businessinsider.com\/image\/4bab48b27f8b9abc26c20300-400-300\/financial-engines-fngn-helps-you-plan-for-your-retirement.jpg\" alt=\"Financial Engines (FNGN) helps you plan for your retirement\" border=\"0\" class=\"slide-image\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong>What they do:<\/strong> This one is impressive. The company was co-founded by Economics Nobel Prize winner William Sharpe, who was one of the inventors of CAPM, the Capital Asset Pricing Model that bedevils business school students with liberal arts backgrounds. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/money\/markets\/2010-03-17-iponobel17_ST_N.htm\">According to USA Today<\/a>,&nbsp; the company <em>&#8220;uses advanced mathematical algorithms to help individuals optimize their retirement investment plans.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The IPO:<\/strong> The shares were priced at $12 in the IPO, above the expected $9-$11 range, and still closed up 44% at $17.25. A sign of a new tech boom, or that you can only IPO when one of your cofounders has a Nobel Prize?<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>MaxLinear (MXL) makes silicon chips<\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"image-container slide-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.businessinsider.com\/image\/4bab4b097f8b9a8927810300-400-300\/maxlinear-mxl-makes-silicon-chips.jpg\" alt=\"MaxLinear (MXL) makes silicon chips\" border=\"0\" class=\"slide-image\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong>What they do:<\/strong><em> <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxlinear.com\/\" title=\"MaxLinear\">According to their homepage<\/a>, MaxLinear makes <em>&#8220;highly integrated radio-frequency analog and mixed signal semiconductor SoC solutions for broadband communication applications offering high levels of performance, small silicon die-size, and low power consumption.&#8221;<\/em> Yeah, we don&#8217;t know what that is either, but we&#8217;re sure there&#8217;s a market for it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The IPO:<\/strong> The shares were priced at $14 in the IPO and closed at $18.7, for a cool 34% first-day return.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Calix (CALX) &#8220;provides telecom multiservice access solutions&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p><div class=\"image-container slide-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.businessinsider.com\/image\/4bab46b17f8b9a0d0e8f0a00-400-300\/calix-calx-provides-telecom-multiservice-access-solutions.jpg\" alt=\"Calix (CALX) &quot;provides telecom multiservice access solutions&quot;\" border=\"0\" class=\"slide-image\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong>What they do:<\/strong> Calix is <em>&#8220;the largest communications equipment supplier focused solely on access&#8221;<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.calix.com\/about\/\">About page<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>The IPO:<\/strong> They went public two days ago.
