The Supreme Court’s January ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission opened the door for corporations to spend unlimited sums on independent expenditures in elections. Texas was among states that had banned such spending. The Texas Tribune reports that new print ads challenge state representative Chuck Hopson, a former Democrat who became a Republican ahead of the 2008 election. The ads were paid for by KDR Development Inc., a real estate company whose president, Republican Larry Durrett, lost a 2006 bid against Hopson.

REV DOOR SPINS FOR CHAMBER COUNSEL & GOP MONEY MAN: A fledging 527 group that seeks to aid congressional Republicans in the 2010 midterm elections has landed a top tier fund raiser. When it moved to No. 1 on Amazon.com’s bestseller list, the authors of the bumped book launched a Rovian attack ad on YouTube in an attempt to reclaim their standing.
