{"id":473088,"date":"2010-03-25T23:02:45","date_gmt":"2010-03-26T03:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c630a53ef0133ec39de83970b"},"modified":"2010-03-25T23:02:45","modified_gmt":"2010-03-26T03:02:45","slug":"former-riverside-police-chief-pleads-guilty-in-drunk-driving-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/473088","title":{"rendered":"Former Riverside police chief pleads guilty in drunk driving case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Riverside Police Chief Russ Leach pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his city-owned vehicle last month.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Leach was sentenced to 30 days of home detention during which he will have to wear an electronic monitoring device, the Riverside County district attorney&#8217;s office said. <br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br><\/p>\n<p>Leach was also sentenced to three years of probation and was ordered to attend an alcohol-abuse class for six months, said John Hall, a district attorney spokesman.<\/p>\n<p>Leach, who also will have to pay about $1,700 in court fees and fines, has until August to complete his 30-day detention.<\/p>\n<p><\/br><a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c630a53ef01310fe01983970c-pi\" style=\"FLOAT: left\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Leach\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341c630a53ef01310fe01983970c \" src=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/.a\/6a00d8341c630a53ef01310fe01983970c-150wi\" style=\"MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px; WIDTH: 150px\"><\/img><\/a> The plea was entered by Leach&#8217;s attorney during arraignment in Riverside Superior Court.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Leach <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/lanow\/2010\/03\/former-riverside-police-chief-charged-with-drunk-driving.html\" >had four drinks at his home<\/a>on Super Bowl Sunday before going to a strip club in Colton, where he had at least seven more. At the time, he was taking prescription pain medication.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br><\/p>\n<p>As he drove his car, Leach plowed into an object and kept driving for about another mile. <\/p>\n<p>Riverside police officers who responded to the incident said they knew Leach had been drinking but did not file charges.The Riverside Police Department has launched an investigation of the officers&#8217; actions.<\/p>\n<p><\/br><\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Robert J.
