{"id":473284,"date":"2010-03-25T15:12:22","date_gmt":"2010-03-25T19:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c60fd53ef01310fddebe8970c"},"modified":"2010-03-25T15:12:52","modified_gmt":"2010-03-25T19:12:52","slug":"excessive-speeders-could-find-it-tougher-to-keep-clean-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/473284","title":{"rendered":"Excessive speeders could find it tougher to keep clean record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted by Michelle Manchir and Ray Long<\/em> at 2:10 p.m.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>SPRINGFIELD &#8212; Drivers who excessively speed would find it tougher to keep it off their records under legislation that passed the Illinois Senate today.<br \/><\/br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <br \/><\/br>The legislation to crack down on drivers going more than 40 mph over the speed limit follows a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/classified\/automotive\/ct-met-speeders-main-20100320,0,6887161.story\">Tribune examination<\/a> that outlined how the fastest drivers sometimes end up with little more than a slap on the wrist. The Tribune story found drivers going far over the limit, including some<br \/>\n hitting 100 mph on their speedometers, have managed to get court<br \/>\nsupervision, a form of probation that allows a driver to wipe the<br \/>\noffense from his record if he drives safely for a designated period<br \/>\nafter appearing in court.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <br \/><\/br>The proposal, which passed the Senate and now goes to the House, would ban a judge from imposing court supervision for these types of egregious speeders.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/classified\/automotive\/ct-met-speeders-0323-20100323,0,621971.story\">A similar bill<\/a>, sponsored by Rep. John D&#8217;Amico, D-Chicago, also cleared the House 114-0 today.
