If you’re a Gmail-using BlackBerry fanatic with a device sporting OS 4.5 or higher, here’s some news that should brighten your day! According to CrackBerry, Research in Motion will be taking down BlackBerry Internet Service for four hours (assuming there’s no hiccups) to upgrade from the current v2.8 to BIS version 3.0. All this is expected to take place during the early morning hours of March 28, so as not to disturb “normal” usage. The upgrade is said to create an outage that will affect 100% of BIS users across North America (that’s a lot of folks…).<\/p>\n
According to CrackBerry’s information, the outage will take place “between 0100 CT \/ 0200 EDT on March 28th and 0500 CT \/ 0600 EDT on March 28th.” Don’t worry, though, the benefits will probably outweigh the costs (eventually). Some features that you’ll see immediately enhanced are “increased attachment compatibility” for OpenOffice files and Windows Media Audio files, as well as other features that get more into the technical nitty gritty. Additionally, we can expect to see features such as two-way sync between read, unread, and sent mail between your BlackBerry and Gmail inbox (you’ve probably noticed that the current version is one-way only), as well as the ability to create and delete labels directly from your BlackBerry. These features are expected to “be added throughout the Spring 2010 by region.”<\/p>\n
