{"id":475515,"date":"2010-03-26T12:33:25","date_gmt":"2010-03-26T16:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gas2.org\/?p=6330"},"modified":"2010-03-26T12:33:25","modified_gmt":"2010-03-26T16:33:25","slug":"california-drops-%e2%80%9ccool-cars%e2%80%9d-legislation-entirely-will-start-process-anew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/475515","title":{"rendered":"California Drops \u201cCool Cars\u201d Legislation Entirely, Will Start Process Anew"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5458\" title=\"ir_image_vehicle\" src=\"http:\/\/go635254.s3.amazonaws.com\/gas2\/files\/2010\/02\/ir_image_vehicle.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" \/>In the ongoing saga of California&#8217;s embattled &#8220;Cool Cars&#8221; regulations that would have been finalized on May 7 of this year, the public safety argument has trumped the environmental argument.<\/p>\n<p>The regulations \u2014 which would have required automakers to put a layer of reflective material on most of the glass in cars to reduce air conditioner use and increase fuel economy \u2014 first <a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2010\/02\/26\/california-cool-cars-law-under-fire-from-police\/\" >came under a barrage of fire from half a dozen or so public safety, police, and transportation associations<\/a> claiming the reflective layer would disrupt everything from tracking of GPS-braceleted criminals, to dropped 911 calls, to an inability to track EZ-Pass customers.
