John McCain (R-Ariz.), Sarah Palin — who I do think has been unfairly attacked as a source of “violent” backlash against health care — dismissed outright the idea that opponents of reform were reacting violently. Palin called it a “ginned-up controversy about us common-sense conservatives kinda inciting violence,” inspiring someone in the crowd to yell that activists would oppose the bill “with our votes!”<\/p>\n

“That’s right!” said Palin. “When we take up our arms we\u2019re talking about our vote.”<\/span><\/p>\n
