Last Sunday, tens of thousands of immigrant rights proponents <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2010\/mar\/22\/nation\/la-na-immigration-march22-2010mar22\" >rallied<\/a> on the National Mall in Washington. <\/p>\n<p>Sens. Charles E. Schumer\u00a0 (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) outlined a <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2010\/mar\/19\/local\/la-me-immig19-2010mar19\" >framework<\/a> for the legislation in mid-March that would provide a path to citizenship for some of the 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., enhance border enforcement efforts and create a program that admits temporary workers. The plan would also create biometric Social Security cards for workers that would allow employers to verify\u00a0their status. <\/p>\n<p>President Obama has said he is committed to seeking bipartisan consensus on the issue this year.
