The pastor of Beach Cities Calvary, the Rev. Jim Kempner, who
\nhas presided over the church since 2001, was arrested as part of a
\nspecial prostitution investigation conducted by the Tustin Police
\nDepartment in May 2008, police told the Daily Pilot. He was charged with one misdemeanor count of agreeing to engage in
\nprostitution after he placed $100 on a dresser in exchange for sex,
\naccording to documents provided by the Orange County district
\nattorney\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Kempner pleaded guilty and was ordered to complete an AIDS testing and
\neducation program, eight days of community service and two years of
\nprobation, according to court records.<\/p>\n
After parents learned of the incident, Prince of Peace School in Mesa Verde, which is on the same property as the church, has
\nstruggled to stay open in the face of plummeting student enrollment. \u201cMany outraged parents made decisions to not re-enroll their children in
\nthe school next year, bringing enrollment down to an all-time low,\u201d a
\ngroup of parents said in a statement Friday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI love this school, and I
\nwant it to stay open,\u201d Michael Gaumond, an administrator for the Costa
\nMesa school, said Friday. \u201cHopefully, God will intervene and we will
\nhave a school next year \u2014 that\u2019s what I\u2019m hoping and praying for.\u201d<\/p>\n
With
\nenrollment numbers looking grim, it doesn\u2019t appear that the preschool
\nand K-6 school will have enough students to remain open at every grade
\nlevel next year, Gaumond said.
