Kids eating more junk than ever<\/p>\n

<\/b>If you’ve wondered why you’ve seen so many fat kids around lately, the latest study gives you a clue as to why: As it turns out, kids these days eat an average of 168 more calories every day than they did 30 years ago.<\/p>\n

Surprised? Me neither.<\/p>\n

What I am surprised by is that the number is so low.<\/p>\n

After all, 98 percent of kids eat as many as three snacks per day and over a quarter of their total calories comes from pure junk. Toss in a few soft drinks, and pretty soon you’ll need a calculator to keep track.<\/p>\n

It’s no wonder nearly a third of all American children are either overweight or obese! It makes me glad I won’t be around to see what the average American looks like a century from now. They’re going to have to reinforce the continental shelf.<\/p>\n

Of course, the simple solution would be for parents to wise up and take better care of their kids. Instead, apparently Uncle Sam thinks it’s his job to slim these kids down.<\/p>\n

In a commentary, Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, called for taxes on soda and junk food… as if that’s ever worked! He also wants to treat fast-food joints like sexual predators, passing zoning laws that would keep them a certain distance from schools.<\/p>\n

That’s the best this guy can come up with? Give me a break!<\/p>\n

If the government wants to have a hand in this, they should start by taking a look at the awful garbage being served INSIDE those schools — not at what’s being sold a block away.<\/p>\n

But the bottom line is that most kids are eating even worse garbage at home — and all the taxes and zoning laws in the world won’t change that.<\/p>\n
