<\/span>But even that must begin in small steps and the sooner the better.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"line-height: 14.15pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-weight: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"line-height: 14.15pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; <\/span>The same holds true for <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">India<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"line-height: 14.15pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-weight: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"line-height: 14.15pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-weight: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\">Yet once you make a high speed trip long enough to require actual sleeping on the train and all that, cost efficiency is impacted and the plane is preferred.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"line-height: 14.15pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-weight: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"line-height: 14.15pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-weight: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\">In the meantime, let us cheer the enthusiasm.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>There is a lot of track to be laid just organizing <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">China<\/st1:country-region> and <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">India<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> and what has already been done is actually reassuring.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>All these reams are possible technically and a young man can anticipate a lifetime career building new lines.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"line-height: 14.15pt; margin-bottom: .0001pt; These countries cannot fully implement the construction of a high-speed rail network and they hoped to draw on our experience and technology,&#8221; he said.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #404040; letter-spacing: 0pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal; mso-font-kerning: 0pt;\">China<\/span><\/i><\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #404040; letter-spacing: 0pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal; mso-font-kerning: 0pt;\"> is in the middle of a \u00a3480 billion domestic railway expansion project that aims to build nearly 19,000 miles of new railways in the next five years, connecting up all of its major cities with high-speed lines.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #404040; letter-spacing: 0pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal; mso-font-kerning: 0pt;\">The world&#8217;s fastest train, the Harmony Express which has a top speed of nearly 250mph, was unveiled at the end of last year, between the cities of Wuhan and Guangzhou. Wholly Chinese-built, but using technology from Siemens and <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Kawasaki<\/st1:city>, the Harmony Express can cover 660 miles, the equivalent of a journey from <st1:city w:st=\"on\">London<\/st1:city> to <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Edinburgh<\/st1:city><\/st1:place> and back, in just three hours.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #404040; letter-spacing: 0pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal; mso-font-kerning: 0pt;\">Mr Wang said the route of the three lines had yet to be decided, but that construction for the South East Asian line had already begun in the southern province of Yunnan and that Burma was about to begin building its link. China has offered to bankroll the Burmese line in exchange for the country&#8217;s rich reserves of lithium, a metal widely used in batteries.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 16.55pt; text-align: justify;\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #404040; letter-spacing: 0pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal; mso-font-kerning: 0pt;\">Currently, the only rail line that links <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">China<\/st1:country-region> to South East Asia is an antiquated track built by the French in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Vietnam<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> a century ago. The Asian Development Bank has recently agreed a second \u00a327 million loan as part of the \u00a393 reconstruction of <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Cambodia<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>&#8216;s network, which should finish by 2013.
