(Photo courtesy of <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/easterEggRoll\" >WhiteHouse.gov<\/a>)\n  <\/div>\n<div>With a theme of \u201cReady, Set, Go!\u201d this year&#8217;s White<br \/>\nHouse Easter Egg Roll will focus on healthy kids and going green.<br \/>\nAccording to the <a class=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/easterEggRoll\" >official White House site<\/a>,<br \/>\n the event will be held on April 5, 2010, and will feature live music,<br \/>\nsports, cooking stations, storytelling, and, of course, Easter egg<br \/>\nrolling. All of the activities will be geared towards encouraging<br \/>\nchildren to lead healthy and active lives as part of Michelle Obama&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnn.com\/food\/markets-groceries\/blogs\/let%E2%80%99s-move-michelle-obama-launches-her-obesity-campaign\">Let\u2019s<br \/>\n Move!<\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnn.com\/food\/markets-groceries\/blogs\/let%E2%80%99s-move-michelle-obama-launches-her-obesity-campaign\">\u00a0<\/a><\/em>campaign<br \/>\n to combat childhood obesity.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>In addition to health and wellness, the official Easter egg roll<br \/>\nwill have a green spin \u2014 environmentally friendly wooden eggs made\u00a0in<br \/>\nthe U.S. from FSC-certified hardwood that feature vegetable-oil based<br \/>\ninks and a water-based coating. The eco-eggs\u00a0will come in purple, pink,<br \/>\ngreen, and yellow and feature the stamped signatures of both President<br \/>\nObama and first lady Michelle Obama. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>DC-area kids used to roll eggs on the Capitol grounds, but<br \/>\nuptight\u00a0lawmakers grew agitated by the damage to the grass and passed<br \/>\nthe Turf Protection Law banning the practice in 1876. \u00a0Two years later<br \/>\nin 1878,\u00a0President Rutherford B. Hayes opened the White House grounds to<br \/>\n area kids, and they&#8217;ve been rolling eggs there ever since. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Notable events from previous egg rolls include the 1941 roll that<br \/>\naccommodated a record 53,000 people (nowadays the numbers are limited to<br \/>\nabout 20,000); the<br \/>\nClinton administration&#8217;s 1998 egg roll which was the first to be<br \/>\nbroadcast on the Internet; and the 2006 event during which more than 100 same-sex<br \/>\ncouples showed up with their children in an organized effort to show<br \/>\nPresident Bush &#8220;that gay families exist in this country.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The lottery for tickets to this annual event closed on Feb 28th.
