{"id":486756,"date":"2010-03-21T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-21T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"tag:www.infinitehealthresources.com:\/\/ea2aa21bf3a0554a21305dce79e63546"},"modified":"2010-03-21T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-21T04:00:00","slug":"carbon-monoxide-detectors-amandas-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/486756","title":{"rendered":"Carbon Monoxide Detectors &#8211; Amanda&#8217;s Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><font size=\"3\">Carbon Monoxide Detectors &#8211; Amanda&#8217;s Law<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, Amanda&#8217;s Law, which mandates the installation of carbon monoxide<br \/>(CO) detectors in every home in New York went into effect.  The law is<br \/>named for 16-year-old Amanda Hansen of West Seneca, New York, who died<br \/>January 17, 2009 due to a carbon monoxide leak from a defective boiler<br \/>while sleeping at a friend&#8217;s house.<\/p>\n<p>According to the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control<br \/>(OFPC), fire departments in New York responded to more than 42,000 calls<br \/>involving carbon monoxide in 2007, the most recent year with complete<br \/>data. A majority of these calls came in at night time hours and during<br \/>the winter months.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to installing carbon monoxide alarms, Governor Paterson and<br \/>the OFPC remind homeowners to take the following actions to help reduce<br \/>their risk and stay safe:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Test and\/or replace alarms according to the manufacturer&#8217;s<br \/>instructions <\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Have heating systems, vents, chimneys and flues tested, inspected<br \/>and cleaned by a qualified technician each year <\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Never leave a car running in an attached garage <\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Regularly examine vents and chimneys for improper connections,<br \/>rust, soot or other debris <\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Never run a vehicle, generator or other fuel powered motor indoors,<br \/>even if garage doors are open to the outdoors <\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Never use a gas oven to heat a home, and only use barbecue grills<br \/>outdoors &#8211; never in a house or garage  and<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Remember that carbon monoxide alarms are not substitutes for smoke<br \/>alarms.
