The families of the women slain by serial killer Rodney Alcala are expected to offer testimony before a judge decides whether to sentence him to death.<\/p>\n

A jury earlier this month recommended death for Alcala<\/a> after the panel convicted him of slaying four women and a teenage girl.<\/p>\n

It was the third time Alcala, 66, had been convicted for the murder
\nof Robin Samsoe, 12, last seen riding her bike to ballet class in
\nJune 1979. He had been condemned to death both times, but the
\nconvictions were overturned. He has been in custody since his 1979
\narrest. <\/p>\n

Before the third trial began in January, he was linked
\nthrough DNA, blood and fingerprint evidence to the deaths of Jill
\nBarcomb, 18, whose body was found in the Hollywood Hills; Georgia
\nWixted, 27, of Malibu; Charlotte Lamb, 32, of Santa Monica; and Jill
\nParenteau, 21, of Burbank. <\/p>\n

During his closing arguments earlier this month, Alcala — a onetime photographer and \u201cDating Game\u201d contestant
\nwho acted as his own attorney in this trial — asked jurors to spare
\nhim the death penalty, saying they would become killers themselves if
\nthey sent him to death row and arguing that the sentence would lead to
\ndecades of appeals.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A sentence of life
\nin prison without parole "would end this matter now," he said. <\/p>\n

It took an Orange County jury about one hour Tuesday to vote for the
\ndeath penalty for Alcala.<\/p>\n

\nbludgeoned and strangled with a pair of blue pants. <\/p>\n

Dec. 16, 1977<\/strong> \u2014<\/strong> Georgia Wixted, 27,
\n is found beaten to death at her home in Malibu. She had been sexually
\nassaulted and strangled. <\/p>\n

1978<\/strong> \u2014<\/strong> Alcala appears in an episode
\n of \u201cThe Dating Game\u201d as Bachelor No. 1. <\/p>\n

June 24, 1978 \u2014<\/strong> Charlotte Lamb, a 32-year-old legal
\nsecretary from Santa Monica, is found in the laundry room of an El
\nSegundo apartment complex. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled
\n with a shoelace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

June 14, 1979 \u2014<\/strong> Jill Parenteau, 21, is
\nfound strangled on the floor of her Burbank apartment. <\/p>\n

June 20, 1979 \u2013 <\/strong>Robin Samsoe, 12, disappears near
\nthe Huntington Beach Pier. Her body is found 12 days later in the Sierra
\n Madre foothills. <\/p>\n

\nAlcala, an unemployed photographer, is arrested at his parents\u2019 Monterey

September 1980 \u2013 <\/strong>Alcala is convicted of the 1978
\nrape of a 15-year-old Riverside girl and sentenced to nine years in
\nstate prison. <\/p>\n

June 20, 1980 \u2014 <\/strong>Orange County Superior Court Judge
\nPhilip E. Schwab sentences Alcala to death after he is convicted of
\nSamsoe’s murder.<\/p>\n

July 11, 1980 \u2014 <\/strong>The Los Angeles County district
\nattorney\u2019s office files murder, burglary and sexual assault charges
\nagainst Alcala in the slaying of Parenteau. <\/p>\n

April 15, 1981 \u2014<\/strong> The L.A. County district attorney\u2019s office
\n tells a judge that prosecution of Alcala in the Parenteau case could
\nnot proceed because a key witness admitted that he had committed perjury
\n in another case. <\/p>\n

Aug. 23, 1984 \u2014<\/strong> The state Supreme Court reversed
\nAlcala\u2019s murder conviction in connection with Samsoe, ruling that the
\njury was improperly told about Alcala\u2019s prior sex crimes. <\/p>\n

June 20, 1986 \u2014 <\/strong>For the second time, Alcala is
\nconvicted of Samsoe\u2019s murder and sentenced to death in Orange County
\nSuperior Court. <\/p>\n

Dec.
\n 31, 1992 \u2014<\/strong> The California Supreme Court unanimously upholds
\nAlcala\u2019s death sentence. <\/p>\n

April 2, 2001 <\/strong>\u2014 A federal appellate court overturns
\nAlcala\u2019s death sentence in the Samsoe case, ruling that the Superior
\nCourt judge precluded the defense from presenting evidence \u201cmaterial to
\nsignificant issues.\u201d <\/p>\n

June 5, 2003<\/strong> \u2014 The Los Angeles County district
\nattorney\u2019s office files murder charges against Alcala alleging that he
\nkilled Wixted during a burglary and rape. <\/p>\n

Sept. 19, 2005 <\/strong>\u2014 Additional murder charges are filed
\n against Alcala in connection to the deaths of Barcomb, Wixted and Lamb.\n <\/p>\n

Jan. 11, 2010 <\/strong>\u2014 Alcala\u2019s trial for the five murders
\nbegins. He represents himself. <\/p>\n
