{"id":490290,"date":"2010-03-30T15:48:38","date_gmt":"2010-03-30T19:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/?p=109060"},"modified":"2010-03-30T15:48:38","modified_gmt":"2010-03-30T19:48:38","slug":"video-kongregate-ceo-on-the-growth-of-virtual-goods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/490290","title":{"rendered":"Video: Kongregate CEO on the Growth of Virtual Goods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/2010\/03\/30\/video-kongregate-ceo-on-the-growth-of-virtual-goods\/kongregate_pic\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-109109\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gigaom.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/kongregate_pic.jpg?w=210&#038;h=118\" alt=\"\" title=\"Kongregate_Pic\" width=\"210\" height=\"118\"  class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-109109\" \/><\/a>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwire.com\/press-release\/DFC-Intelligence-Live-Gamer-Announce-Broad-Study-on-State-Virtual-Goods-Adoption-Among-1139031.htm\">new study from DFC Intelligence and Live Gamer<\/a> shows that gamers in North America and Europe are now &#8220;largely comfortable&#8221; with purchasing digital content such as virtual currency and in-game goods.<\/p>\n<p>According to the survey of roughly 5,000 gamers, 60 percent of respondents said that &#8220;they had purchased an in-game good that was not a full game.&#8221; (It should be noted that Live Gamer provides a product to conduct microtransactions in places like games, so factor that into the overall assessment of the data.) Last July, a Magid study commissioned by PlaySpan found that <a href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/2009\/07\/30\/12-of-americans-bought-virtual-goods-in-past-12-months-survey\/\">roughly 12 percent of Americans<\/a> had purchased a virtual item.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, DFC Intelligence says that many of the games that use a virtual item model fall under a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) Lite category. These are games that have a persistent environment and allow you to build characters, but don&#8217;t have the monthly fees associated with large MMOGs.
