{"id":490309,"date":"2010-03-30T16:02:54","date_gmt":"2010-03-30T20:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/?p=80946"},"modified":"2010-03-30T16:02:54","modified_gmt":"2010-03-30T20:02:54","slug":"club-for-growth-reminds-mark-kirk-of-his-pledge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/490309","title":{"rendered":"Club for Growth Reminds Mark Kirk of His Pledge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/80749\/repeal-pledge-becomes-gop-litmus-test\">I asked Mike Connolly<\/a> of the Club for Growth what, exactly, could strip candidates who&#8217;d signed the Club&#8217;s &#8220;Repeal It&#8221; pledge of official support, Connolly suggested that repercussions couldn&#8217;t really happen until January 2011, when new members of Congress have a chance to introduce repeal legislation. If they whiff, he said, then they&#8217;ll hear about it.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) dodged a question on whether, as he&#8217;s said before, he&#8217;d back full repeal. Greg Sargent <a href=\"http:\/\/theplumline.whorunsgov.com\/senate-republicans\/club-for-growth-rips-mark-kirk-for-wavering-on-repeal\/\">gauged Connolly&#8217;s reaction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHe said that he\u2019s going to do this,\u201d Club for Growth spokesman Mike Connolly just said by phone. \u201cWe expect him to live up to his pledge.\u201d &#8230; \u201cHe\u2019s made a promise to the people of Illinois,\u201d Connolly continued. Asked if failing to follow through could cost Kirk the Club\u2019s support in a general election, Connolly said: \u201cWe\u2019ll have to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span id=\"more-80946\"><\/span>Sargent calls this the Club &#8220;ripping&#8221; Kirk, but I don&#8217;t see it. According to FEC records at OpenSecrets, the Club <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/pacs\/expend.php?cmte=C00432260&amp;cycle=2010\">hasn&#8217;t even given anything<\/a> to Kirk &#8212; there&#8217;s nothing to take back or withhold, really.
