(Insert sigh<\/em>) Whether or not we actually need to see a remake of Goldie Hawn’s 1980 comedy Private Benjamin<\/em> is still up for debate, but according to a scoop from The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> — we’re getting one anyway.<\/p>\n

Anna Faris is set to star in a remake of the movie that originally starred Hawn as a well-off woman who joins the army after the death of her husband. <\/p>\n

Goldie, along with co-star Eileen Brennan, received an Oscar nomination for the movie, which also received a nod for best original screenplay. Now the recently-wed Faris — whose film credits include The House Bunny, Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel<\/em>, and Observe And Report<\/em> — is being lined up for the forthcoming reboot.<\/p>\n

The Reporter claims the new Benjamin will take on a contemporary twist and will be produced by Mark Gordon, with Amy Talkington in talks to pen the screenplay. The story will be set in present day, and will make it a point to make light of men and women serving in the armed forces, or the current conflicts our troops are engaged in.<\/p>\n

Private Benjamin<\/em> isn’t the only Goldie Hawn comedy on the list for an update: just weeks ago Jennifer Lopez was linked to a remake of Hawn and partner Kurt Russell’s 1986 romantic comedy, Overboard<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It might be cool to have Goldie’s daughter — actress Kate Hudson — appear in one of these reboots.<\/p>\n

No word on when Private Benjamin: 2.0<\/em> might actually begin filming, as Anna will be busy shooting her next movie, What’s Your Number?<\/em>, which goes into production later this spring.<\/p>\n

In addition, New Line is also remaking Police Academy<\/em> and Vacation<\/em>.<\/p>\n
