Communication is essential in the design, definition, conduct, transfer, and implementation of the work we do if we are to have an impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The above paragraph was part of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ord\/htm\/anastas\/path-forward.htm\">The Path Forward<\/a> ,\u00a0 a memo Assistant Administrator Paul T. Anastas recently sent to me and my colleagues across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ord\/\">EPA\u2019s Office of Research and Development<\/a>\u2014the science arm of the Agency.<\/p>\n<p>The memo outlines Dr. Anastas\u2019 vision for leading EPA research, and lays out a set of principles for guiding our work into the future. As a science writer, I was thrilled to see that communication was an integral part of that vision.<\/p>\n<p>It was good timing, too.<\/p>\n<p>To help spread the word about EPA research, I\u2019m happy to announce the launch of <a href=\"http:\/\/epa.gov\/ord\/sciencenews\/science-matters\/april2010\/science-matters_april2010.htm\">Science Matters<\/a>,\u00a0 an electronic newsletter devoted to sharing stories about the innovative environmental and human health science conducted by EPA researchers and their partners.<\/p>\n<p>Science forms the foundation of everything EPA does. It provides the information, tools, and models the Agency needs to meet its mission to protect human health and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>EPA scientists and engineers explore the complex interrelationships between people and our environment. At their core, they are problem solvers\u2014devoting their efforts to deeply understanding problems. What they learn provides critical information for meeting the nation\u2019s most pressing environmental and human health challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of Science Matters is to spread the word about that collective effort.
