{"id":493538,"date":"2010-03-31T12:52:32","date_gmt":"2010-03-31T16:52:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/?p=81065"},"modified":"2010-03-31T12:52:32","modified_gmt":"2010-03-31T16:52:32","slug":"dale-robertson-skedaddles-away-from-racist-photo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/493538","title":{"rendered":"Dale Robertson Skedaddles Away From Racist Photo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tommy Christopher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/tea-party-founder-infamous-for-holding-n-word-sign-claims-its-a-fake\/\">interviews Dale Robertson<\/a>, the Tea Party activist who became infamous after I published a photo of him holding a sign with the phrase &#8220;Taxpayer = NIGGAR.&#8221; Robertson&#8217;s unhappy, understandably, with his new status as an activist who&#8217;s pilloried every time he&#8217;s quoted.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The photograph in question, available in hi-res <a href=\"http:\/\/houstontps.org\/audio\/4995.jpg\">here<\/a>, depicts Robertson holding a sign that says \u201cCongress=Slaveowner, Taxpayer=N***ar.\u201d The misspelled n-word appears to have been duct-taped over the original sign, which Robertson claims read \u201cCongress=Slaveowner, Taxpayer=Slave.\u201d He says he never taped anything over the original sign, nor did anyone else. He says the photo must be a fake.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>How convenient!<span id=\"more-81065\"><\/span> In reality, a source in the Tea Party movement who was worried about Robertson&#8217;s bid for mainstream cred &#8212; his TeaParty.org site was promoted in an email from the fairly mainstream ResistNet &#8212; emailed me a very high-res version of the photo. I checked with people who were at the 2009 Tea Party where Robertson held the sign, who told me he was encouraged to leave &#8212; there was no tolerance for his sign. I checked in with Robertson&#8217;s publicist on Jan. 4, did not get a response, then, later that day, <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/73036\/n-word-sign-dogs-would-be-tea-party-leader\">ran the photo<\/a>.
