{"id":499415,"date":"2010-04-01T09:26:12","date_gmt":"2010-04-01T13:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.footnoted.org\/?p=4675"},"modified":"2010-04-01T09:26:12","modified_gmt":"2010-04-01T13:26:12","slug":"new-sec-regulations-cast-wide-net%e2%80%a6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/499415","title":{"rendered":"New SEC Regulations Cast Wide Net\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.footnoted.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/SEC.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4676\" title=\"SEC\" src=\"http:\/\/www.footnoted.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/SEC.jpeg\" alt=\"SEC seal\" width=\"135\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a>We can\u2019t speak for anyone else, but we\u2019ll admit that we were caught off guard by the regulations that SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro unveiled at a \u00a0press conference earlier today.<\/p>\n<p>In an unusually buoyant tone, Schapiro said that the new regulations would accomplish two key goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Facilitate the work of the SEC\u2019s Enforcement Division, which was restructured in mid-January<\/li>\n<li>help to reduce the nation\u2019s nearly $12.7 trillion national debt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time for meaningful reform in the marketplace,\u201d Schapiro said at the press conference.  \u201cWe\u2019ve got to take bold steps to prevent the next Enron, or the next Bernie Madoff, from swindling hard-working investors.
