Congratulations Vladim\u00edr, it is richly deserved.<\/p>\n<p>The Dennis Gabor (original Hungarian: D\u00e9nes G\u00e1bor) Award is Hungary\u2019s highest technical honor, named after the Hungarian electrical engineer and inventor of holography, for which Gabor received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1971. Dr. Sz\u00e9kely is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He has published around 400 technical papers and developed the mathematical background of the structure function based thermal transient methodology some 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->I\u2019ve been involved with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentor.com\/products\/mechanical\/micred\">MicReD<\/a> since the late 1990s when MicReD and Flomerics were involved in the EU-funded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ist-world.org\/ProjectDetails.aspx?ProjectId=a3f2206db5ac4d1eba9c07709fedaee8\">PROFIT<\/a> project (Prediction of Temperature Gradients Influencing the Quality of Electronic Products) led by Philips and involving a number of leading European semiconductor companies. The project aimed to take the Double Cold Plate technology (see image below) developed during the earlier DELPHI and SEED projects and extended the measurements to the transient domain, requiring fast, accurate thermal test equipment. MicReD\u2019s role was to deliver that, which they did with flying colors by developing prototype T3Ster hardware and structure function software under Vladim\u00edr\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_940\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 475px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-940\" src=\"http:\/\/s3-blogs.mentor.com\/johnparry\/files\/2010\/04\/double-cold-plate.png\" alt=\"DELPHI Double Cold Plate\" width=\"465\" height=\"507\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">DELPHI Double Cold Plate<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentor.com\/products\/mechanical\/micred\">MicReD<\/a> are a spin-off company created by researchers of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanopack.org\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;task=view&#038;id=46&#038;Itemid=82\">Department of Electron Devices <\/a>at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, where Vladim\u00edr is a professor. They were acquired by Flomerics in 2005, after we were able to convince MicReD\u2019s management team that the combination of their technology with Flomerics\u2019 world-wide sales and marketing infrastructure was a winning combination. I had the great pleasure of working with the MicReD team to integrate their business into Flomerics, which is now Mentor Graphics\u2019 Mechanical Analysis Division. The T3Ster is the division\u2019s flagship product for advanced transient temperature measurement equipment used for rapid, accurate thermal characterization of semiconductor chip packages, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentor.com\/products\/mechanical\/products\/teraled\">power LEDs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MicReD retains its strong links to Budapest University of Technology, where Professor Marta Rencz, head of the MicReD group also heads the Department of Electron Devices, a world renowned research organization in the field of thermal, electro-thermal issues in microelectronic devices.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/mgc_mechanical\/~4\/qnpp3t3GDSQ\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vladim\u00edr Sz\u00e9kely It was great to read that Dr. Vladim\u00edr Sz\u00e9kely, has received the Dennis Gabor Award for Innovation for his work leading the team at MicReD on the development of the T3Ster (pronounced \u201ctrister\u201d) technology.
