{"id":505534,"date":"2010-04-02T14:29:52","date_gmt":"2010-04-02T18:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/?p=81304"},"modified":"2010-04-02T14:29:52","modified_gmt":"2010-04-02T18:29:52","slug":"is-this-what-failure-looks-like","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/505534","title":{"rendered":"Is This What Failure Looks Like?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans today have been quick to use the Dept. of Labor&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/empsit.nr0.htm\" >new employment numbers<\/a> as evidence that the Democrats&#8217; efforts to stimulate the economy over the last year have failed.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), for example, issued a statement arguing that no long-term recovery can happen until &#8220;Washington stops actively impeding economic growth.&#8221;\u00a0And Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), who heads the Republican Study Committee, said &#8220;we have still yet to see the robust private sector job creation the Obama administration promised would come from its $862 billion failed stimulus.&#8221;<span id=\"more-81304\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a curious tactic, considering that (1) the economy created 162,000 jobs last month &#8212; 114,000 when census hiring is excluded; (2) that the &#8220;failed stimulus&#8221; included more than <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/24591\/economists-democrats-criticize-obama-tax-cut-plan\" >$300 billion in tax cuts<\/a> for businesses and individuals, which is the same strategy that GOP leaders have argued would most effectively grow the economy; and (3) that 162,000 is quite an improvement above the 700,000+ jobs that were being shed each month when Obama moved into the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point: this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/speakerpelosi\/4483656985\/\">graph<\/a> from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/job-graph.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-81322\" title=\"job graph\" src=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/job-graph-480x340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans today have been quick to use the Dept. of Labor&#8217;s new employment numbers as evidence that the Democrats&#8217; efforts to stimulate the economy over the last year have failed.
