According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autonews.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20100331\/ANE\/100339972\/1287\" ><em>Automotive News<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052702303395904575158052192487786.html\" ><em>The<\/em> <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>, a partnership could be announced on April 14.<\/p>\n<p>The plan would be to share vehicle components among the Daimler, Smart, Renault, and Nissan brands. The primary focus is expected to be on building a Smart Fortwo successor that would also serve as the basis for the next-generation Renault Twingo, and possibly an updated Mercedes-Benz A-class.<\/p>\n<p>The groups would also work together on fuel-efficient powertrains, probably gasoline and diesel engines no larger than 1.8 liters. It also seems likely the two will share electric-drive technology, given that both companies are developing electric cars: Nissan will soon launch the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caranddriver.com\/news\/car\/09q3\/2011_nissan_leaf_electric_vehicle-official_photos_and_info\">Leaf<\/a> and Daimler is developing an <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.caranddriver.com\/smart-fortwo-electric-drive-production-details-announced\/\">electric Smart Fortwo<\/a>.
