Ramon C. Cortines asked Greuel to conduct the investigation after a grand jury <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-lausd-conflict2-2010apr02,0,6619275.story\">indicted<\/a>\u00a0Bassam Raslan, a subcontractor hired to help run the district&#8217;s building program. <\/p>\n<p>The grand jury charged Raslan with\u00a0nine counts, accusing him of funneling business from the district\u2019s\u00a0school building\u00a0program to a company he co-owns.<\/p>\n<p>Raslan&#8217;s attorney said his client\u00a0complied with\u00a0district policy and that officials knew of Raslan&#8217;s ownership in the company, TBI Associates. <\/p>\n<p>The indictment, which came almost three years after a Times <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2007\/jun\/29\/local\/me-tbi29\">investigation<\/a>\u00a0raised questions about Raslan and his business,\u00a0also accuses school district officials of doing little to prevent the conflict.\n<\/p>\n<p>Greuel&#8217;s investigation will begin\u00a0soon and Cortines promised to make the findings public.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If we find any wrongdoing or discrepancies &#8230; we will take swift, appropriate action on the persons or companies involved,&quot; he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Jason Song<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>City Controller Wendy Greuel has agreed to audit the Los Angeles Unified School District&#8217;s\u00a0construction program, officials said Friday.
