Canadian tourist <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/news.globaltv.com\/technology\/story.html?id=2728354\">Mary Jo Penkala<\/a> was on a plane near Montserrat at the time, and after the pilot made an announcement for passengers to look out the port window, <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/story_print.html?id=2728353\">she snapped this<\/a>: <br clear=\"all\"><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/story_print.html?id=2728353\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/files\/2010\/03\/montserrat_volcano.jpg\" alt=\"montserrat_volcano\" title=\"montserrat_volcano\" width=\"600\" height=\"397\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13311\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wow! I&#8217;ve seen a lot of amazing things out my airplane window, but never <em>anything<\/em> close to this. Ms. Penkala is enjoying a bit of well-deserved notoriety for the picture. It&#8217;s amazing in and of itself, but I love how we now can get so many views of volcanic plumes: from below, the side, and even from space.
