City officials said the moratorium was needed to<br \/>\nprovide time for development of new drilling regulations aimed at<br \/>\naddressing health issues.<br \/><\/br><br \/>\n<br \/><\/br><br \/>\nChalfant had been expected on Monday to rule on a separate lawsuit<br \/>\nfiled by the city asking that he scrap the county report related to<br \/>\nplans to drill new wells, in part because none of the 1,000-acre<br \/>\nfield&#8217;s existing 1,463 active, idle and abandoned wells has undergone<br \/>\nsuch a review.<br \/><\/br><br \/>\n<br \/><\/br><\/p>\n<p>\nInstead, a hearing on the matter was pushed back to June 3 to give<br \/>\nparties more time to negotiate a settlement.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> If the county report is<br \/>\ninvalidated, a new one will be required before new drilling can occur.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-oil3-2010apr03,0,946.story\">Read the full story here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Louis Sahagun<\/p>\n<p>Photo: Oil facilities in the Baldwin Hills.
