Blandin received $4.7 million of the ARRA broadband stimulus funds to deploy the project. Obviously we\u2019re all excited; <a href=\"http:\/\/blandinonbroadband.org\/2010\/03\/25\/rural-minnesota-awarded-arra-broadband-funding\/\">Bernadine Joselyn<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blandinonbroadband.org\/2010\/03\/31\/senator-klobuchar-visits-blandin\/\">Becky LaPlant<\/a> have been posting updates on how the project is going. We have also been excited to see how the news has stimulated news and discussions in the following places\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>MinnPost &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/stories\/2010\/04\/05\/17078\/seeding_a_culture_of_broadband_in_rural_minnesota\">Seeding &#8216;a culture of broadband&#8217; in rural Minnesota<\/a> \u2013 Sharon Schmickle highlights the importance of broadband \u2013 especially to rural areas and recognizes the potential of the MIRC project to get broadband to more people\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Rural residents have as many or more reasons to embrace broadband as any city dweller.<\/p>\n<p>High-speed connections are a small town&#8217;s best hope for stopping the devastating drain of businesses and bright young people.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Minnesota Daily &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mndaily.com\/2010\/03\/30\/broadband-expansion-underway-minnesota\">Broadband expansion underway in Minnesota<\/a> \u2013 The University of Minnesota newspaper shone a light on the opportunities arising from the grant. (The <a href=\"http:\/\/mn4h.com\/community\/leaders.html\">University of Minnesota Extension Center for Community Vitality<\/a> is one of the 19 MIRC partners.)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI recently heard someone say, \u2018access denied is opportunity denied,\u2019 and I think the University is all about opportunity,\u201d Joselyn said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Minneapolis Star Tribune &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/local\/89475152.html\">Blandin will use stimulus for Net<\/a> \u2013 The Star Tribune spoke with Blandin Foundation president Jim Hoolihan to learn more about the grant. In fact I think they did a good job os succinctly describing what the grant will entail\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The grant will be used to expand hours of rural workforce centers, distribute refurbished computers, extend small business technical assistance and training, train individuals and business leaders, and otherwise crank up community interest in high-speed Internet.<\/p>\n<p>Getting business and community leaders to buy in is critical, Blandin officials say.
