The LA Times adds, &#8220;At least three other WellPoint executives got compensation increases of <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/features\/health\/la-fi-wellpoint3-2010apr03,0,3259739.story\">as much as 75%<\/a>.&#8221; Braly&#8217;s boost comes as &#8220;WellPoint&#8217;s California subsidiary, Anthem Blue Cross in Woodland Hills, seeks double-digit rate increases for many of its 800,000 members who buy individual policies.&#8221; During the health care debate, WellPoint became the poster child for the abuses of the health insurance industry, pressuring lawmakers to <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/02\/24\/report-wellpoint\/\">support drastic reform<\/a> and pushing Obama to add stronger cost control provisions into his health care blueprint. A Center for American Progress analysis from February found that &#8220;double-digit hikes have been implemented or are pending <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.americanprogressaction.org\/issues\/2010\/02\/pdf\/wellpoint.pdf\">in at least 11 other states<\/a> among the 14 where WellPoint\u2019s Blue Cross Blue Shield companies are active.&#8221; WellPoint spokesman Jon Mills justified Braly&#8217;s compensation by saying that the company &#8220;<a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/features\/health\/la-fi-wellpoint3-2010apr03,0,3259739.story\">wants to attract and retain top talent<\/a>.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/04\/04\/palin-weak-ratings\/\" >Palin?s talk show debut garners weak reviews, lower-than-expected ratings. \t\t<\/a><br \/> Former Alaska Gov. Rapper <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/03\/31\/ll-cool-j-palin\/\">LL Cool J<\/a> and country music star <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/03\/31\/toby-keith-palin\/\">Toby Keith<\/a> both expressed disapproval that Fox was using canned interviews they had recorded with different people for Palin&#8217;s show, leading the network <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mediabistro.com\/tvnewser\/fnc\/fox_news_to_cut_old_ll_cool_j_interview_from_new_sarah_palin_show_156885.asp\">to pull<\/a> LL Cool J&#8217;s interview. Following the show&#8217;s airing, critics gave <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/04\/02\/sarah-palin-show-reviews_n_523224.html\">middling reviews<\/a>, calling it &#8220;canned,&#8221; &#8220;innocuous, flat,&#8221; and a &#8220;letdown.&#8221; It appears viewers weren&#8217;t thrilled either, as Mediaite notes that the show&#8217;s ratings <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/sarah-palins-fox-news-special-garners-unspectacular-ratings\/\">didn&#8217;t even beat<\/a> those of the program it replaced:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p> Sarah Palin\u2019s much-hyped LL Cool J-less Fox News special last night didn\u2019t bring in the huge ratings some (ok, we) predicted.<strong> Greta Van Susteren\u2019s On The Record which normally airs at 10pmET beat the program the previous three nights in the A25-54 demographic and two out of three nights in total viewers.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Moreover, the show &#8220;<a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mediabistro.com\/tvnewser\/fnc\/ratings_for_sarah_palin_debut_on_fox_news_157259.asp\">shed viewers from start to finish<\/a>,&#8221; losing 18 percent of viewers over the course of the program.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WellPoint CEO receives a 51 percent increase in compensation.
