Highly-literate wordsmiths will now be permitted to use proper nouns, an act that has been prohibited for &#8220;Scrabblers&#8221; ever since the game was trademarked by creator Alfred Butts in 1948. <\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-99399\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>New high scoring combinations will include Jay-Z (23 points), Lexulous (15 points), Xerxes (20 points) and Kyrgyzstan (29 points). Players can also score mega-points by using popular words like Beyonce, Pepsi, Jordin Sparks, and Shakira. Mattel is even considering allowing players to spell words backwards and upwards on the board and place words unconnected to other pieces.<\/p>\n<p>The new rules would be a \u201cgreat new twist\u201d on the classic game,  a spokeswoman for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/weird-news\/2010\/04\/06\/scrabble-chiefs-break-with-tradition-by-allowing-names-in-game-86908-22165271\/\">the toy manufacturer<\/a> said Monday.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe layout, the colors of the board, the rules and the game itself have all remained unchanged for more than 60 years. These changes are the biggest news for Scrabble lovers in the history of the game and will provide a great new twist on the old formula. We believe that people who are already fans will enjoy the changes but some people will want to continue playing the old way so we will still be selling a board with the original rules.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mattel will unveil a new version of the game with the amended rules in July.<\/p>\n<p>Do we have any Scrabble fans out there?
