Aston Martin has announced plans to campaign a mildly modified Rapide in this May\u2019s N\u00fcrburgring 24-Hour race. Aston says the only changes from the production Rapide involve gutting the fabulous interior, retuning the suspension, mounting racing tires, and adding some extra safety equipment. Oh, and lots of sponsorship stickers.<\/p>\n

While a four-door luxo-car might not seem like the best starting point for a race car, the Rapide has serious performance chops. When we drove a Rapide<\/a>, we found it handled tightly, changed direction smartly, and packed enough grunt to finish the quarter-mile in 13 seconds flat. Last year, a modified V12 Vantage<\/a> won its class in the 24-hour race; this year, the Vantage will compete again alongside the Rapide when the race commences on May 15.<\/p>\n
