But there have been six aftershocks that registered more than 5.0, and dozens in the 4 range, <a href=\"http:\/\/quake.usgs.gov\/recenteqs\/Quakes\/quakes.big.html\">according to the U.S. Geological Survey.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a 4.6 temblor on the border early Tuesday morning. But the last magnitude 5 quake occurred Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Hutton said there\u2019s about a 56% chance that&nbsp; another magnitude 5<br \/>\naftershock will occur sometime today. She said that over the next week,<br \/>\nthere might be as many as 22 magnitude 4 aftershocks and maybe two<br \/>\nmagnitude 5 aftershocks. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe good news is that the aftershocks do<br \/>\nbecome less frequent with time,\u201d Hutton said. \u201cAfter a week or two, it<br \/>\nwill only be an occasional jolt.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The aftershocks are being felt most acutely in Mexicali, El Centro, Calexico and other border towns hit hardest by the temblor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"In line for assistance\" src=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/media\/photo\/2010-04\/53111665.jpg\" style=\"margin: 8px; width: 407px; height: 271px; float: right;\" title=\"In line for assistance\" border=\"0\" \/>On Monday, assessment teams inspected buildings and cleanup crews swept up broken<br \/>\nglass in Mexicali and its smaller California neighbor, Calexico, both<br \/>\nof which sustained modest damage. The death toll rose to two from the quake, which also left more<br \/>\nthan 230 people injured. The quake, centered about 30 miles south<br \/>\nof the border, caused 45 buildings in Baja California to collapse or<br \/>\npartly collapse, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>On the U.S. side of the border, a 12-square-block historic section of<br \/>\nCalexico was closed for inspection and several buildings were<br \/>\nred-tagged as unsafe, City Manager Victor M. Carrillo said. Calexico<br \/>\nalso lost the use of its main water tank, prompting city officials to<br \/>\ncall for strict conservation.<\/p>\n<p>Two people were injured in surrounding Imperial County, one critically,<br \/>\naccording to Maria Peinado, a spokeswoman for the county Office of<br \/>\nEmergency Services.
